So, I bet that you've met someone like that before. They only believe you, if they see what you want them to see. In John 20 there is a short story about Thomas, one of the twelve disciples. He was known as a doubter. They call him… Thomas the Doubter. Anyways, let’s get to the story. On the evening of the first day of the week, the disciples were gathered together. Then Jesus came (after He rose from the dead) and said ”Peace be with you!” Then Jesus showed them is hands and side, to prove that He is Jesus who rose from the dead. The disciples were so happy when they knew that He was Christ. Then Jesus said it again “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent Me, I send you.” Then he breathed on them (spiritually, not physically) and told them that the Holy Spirit must be with them.
Now lets get to the more I’ll believe it only until I see part.
Do you remember when I said that Thomas is one of the twelve, well when Jesus arrived to them at the gathering Thomas wasn’t there with them that day. So the disciples went to him and said: “We have seen the Lord!” But then Thomas said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.” Around a week later the disciples had another gathering together and Thomas was with them. Just letting you know that you‘re doing a great job reading this story! Keep going! Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”
Thomas then said to Him, ”My Lord and my God!” Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
Wow isn’t amazing how Jesus said that! Do you see the Italic part in the very last sentence where Jesus was speaking. For me that is very important, and I’ll tell you why. Jesus said: Blesses are those who have not seen and yet have believed. Did you notice something? I did.
He‘s talking about us! We are those people who are believing and yet have not seen Jesus.I'm So Blessed! You’re So Blessed! So, let me tell you this, Thomas is an amazing example for people now a days. Thomas doubted Christ, he doubted his closest friends. But when he noticed that Christ was back, raised from the dead, he knew that Jesus needed more. He needed Thomas to believe. Maybe Christ was testing him. I don’t know, but I do know that He’s watching over us and expecting us to grow stronger in our relationship with Him, so then we don’t doubt God when He test us.
I want to encourage you today and everyday, when you see that one friend or even yourself, think about Thomas and Jesus, and think about how we are blessed because we believe in Christ our Savior without even seeing Him.
I hope that you have a good day, and thank you soo much for reading this with patience. I know it’s kind of long, but it’s important.
Here is the chapter to this story: John 20:19-31. Byee!
