What is Easter about? Many people have different focuses on what Easter is about, usually it’s about the Easter Bunny or Jesus’ Resurrection. Let’s get into it!
Easter Bunny
The Easter Bunny is a fun bunny that always comes around Easter time and fills your baskets with goods. But the most fun of all is finding all the easter eggs that are hidden!
Thats what some people believe, but that is not the true meaning of Easter at all! Its ok to have a little bit of fun with maybe just enjoying finding eggs, but to be honest, the Easter bunny is not real, and never was.
Jesus
Jesus is the reason we celebrate Easter, but before I tell you why, let's give you some background on Jesus.
Jesus was born in Bethlehem, known as the town of David. (Luke 2) Jesus grew up like everyone else, he was a boy, with parents and siblings. Although, Jesus was different, He is the Son of God, at a very young age Jesus went out to preach in a temple (Luke 2). Jesus grew up into a man who had disciples who followed Him. Jesus was the disciples Rabbi. A Rabbi is like a teacher who preaches about the Word of God. During Jesus’ lifetime the Roman Empire ruled and they did not like Jesus.
The Reason For Easter
Jesus is the whole point why we celebrate Easter, and here's why. Jesus was a man on the earth and is the Son of God. Over and over again Jesus would preach and declare that He is the Song of God, some did not believe Him. Since, Jesus is the son of God, He is perfect, never sinned, holy, and awesome! As I said earlier the Roman Empire did not like the sound of this Jesus guy, neither that He had disciples with Him.
Jesus one day goes out to cross the Kidron River to go to a garden, his disciples went in with. One of Jesus’ disciples is named Judas and we already know that in Matthew 26 Judas betrays Jesus. How you might ask? This is how: Judas Iscariot went to the chief priest ands asked him,
“What are you willing to give me if I deliver him (referring to Jesus) over to you?” So they counted out for him thirty pieces of silver. From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over. John 18 and Matthew 26 both write about Jesus arrest, let’s focus on John 18. Verse 2, “Now Judas, who betrayed him, knew the place, because Jesus had often met there with his disciples. Verse 3, So Judas came to the garden, guiding a detachment of soldiers and some officials from the chief priests and the Pharisees. They were carrying torches, lanterns and weapons. From verse 4 on to 40 Jesus and the Pharisees are questioning Him, the disciples are frightened, and Jesus is calm through all of this. John 19 is Jesus being crucified on the cross. John 20 is Jesus being resurrected from the dead to life, coming back from paying all the debts and sins of the world past, present, and future!
So to summarize this incredible story, Jesus, the Son of God who did nothing wrong, died on the cross to pay everybody’s sin. The reason why we celebrate Easter is to celebrate the last part: He resurrected from the tomb!
Why Would He Do That?
Now, some people do not believe in Jesus Christ and that He died for us. Some people, ask why He would do that for me.
Honestly, it’s because that Jesus loves every single person on this Earth, and wants to have a personal relationship with you. That might sound weird, but if we go to Genesis 1: 27 it says: “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Here we see that God created humans in His own image and if we keep reading we can see how close of a relationship God has with Adam and Eve. Adam and Eve sinned and were kicked out of the garden of Eden and couldn’t have the same relationship they had with God from before. That is why Jesus Christ came down to live a life we should follow and then died on the cross for us to choose God’s way or the world’s way. God gives us a free will and we should reflect off of the decision that Adam and Eve decided in the garden. God’s way is the only way and that is why Jesus died for us. Because He doesn’t want to see us suffer. If you would like to receive Jesus in your heart and life today please email us, we would love to talk to you about it!
